Topčider is a park and a city quarter in Belgrade. The park covers 111.336 m2, in the valley of Topčiderska river, and for 150 years is one of Belgrade's most favorite picnic spots.
The name Topčider is a Turkish word, taken from the Persian language, and means the Tobdish valley. It is called the origin in the 15th century when artillery camps were located here where the Turks poured their cannons. There were also facilities in the possession of the Belgrade pasture, and the meadows were used for grazing horses.
In the first decades of the 18th century, during the Austrian occupation of Belgrade, in the valley of the Topčider River, there were the Polish estates of the Austrian generals, Mayuri. There was also the Prince of Virtemberski hunting house.
With renewed Turkish rule, Turkish masters of Belgrade went to Topčider to teferiče and built summerhouses for occasional stay.
