The Church of the Ružica is a church located in the north-east suburb of the Belgrade Fortress, beneath the Zindan Gate. In the era of despot Stefan Lazarević there was an old church of the same name, which the Turks in the conquest of Belgrade destroyed in 1521. The present church was a barrack warehouse in the 18th century, which was 1867-69. turned into a military church.
The exact time when this church was built and who took part in the construction is not even known today. The only thing that has been established is that this is the oldest Belgrade church.
By the end of the seventeenth century, the church of Ružica was demolished, but a committee for the restoration of the church was organized for five days after the liberation from the Turks. The works were quickly completed, so the church was brought up after ten months. After that, the church began to worship.
