The
Museum of Applied Arts in Belgrade was founded on 1950, and
belongs to the category of artistic museums of a specialized type. The main activity of the museum is to collect, preserve, study and exhibit objects of applied art. In addition to national art, it is about collecting and presenting the
works of applied art from other parts of Europe and the world, which
through cultural and economic connections came to our premises.
The Museum of Applied Arts was built in the period from 1927 to 1929. It
was built as a two-storey palace in an academic style, with a
representative entrance and a spacious marble staircase with wrought
iron railings. Although various adaptations were made over time, the building preserved the spirit of the time in which it was erected. The
authors of this remarkable object of Belgrade interier architecture are
architects Stevan Belić (project), Nikola Krasnov (facade) and Neregar
(interior decoration). The
museum is located in the very heart of Belgrade, near Knez Mihailova
Street, which is the main shopping street in the city and at the same
time a pedestrian zone leading to the most important tourist monument of
Belgrade, the medieval fortress Kalemegdan.
