Manak's house is located in the suburbs of the former Savamala, on the corner of Kraljevića Marka and Gavrila Princip. It contains rich collections of folk costumes, from Kosmet and from
South Serbia, then customs and the like, all in total about 2600
objects.
Manak's house testifies to the situation before the regulation and the creation of a new Serbian Savamala. According to the prince's order, they had to guard the "ingots" as they demolished Savamala and swept the new streets. The exact time of its construction is not known. It is assumed that it was erected at the time when the Prince of Princess Ljubica and Kafana were raised "?".
There are more legends that bind to this house. After some lectures, there was a tatar (post office) of Prince Miloš Obrenović in it. In
the time of Miloš Obrenović there were no organized mail or postal
lines with a certain direction and time of departure and arrival of the
shipment. The mail transfer carried out, on request, letters to horses called tatars. Wearing mail, tatars stayed briefly during the trip to the postal stations, where they changed horses, rested and ate. According to them, the postal stations were called, and one of them,
Manak's House, was on the line where the tatars transmitted official
letters and state documents.
For this old town house, the legend is also tied to the Turkish agi and his harem. It
is known that the house was bought by the Greek Manojlo Manak, who in
the seventies of the nineteenth century held a baker and a tavern on the
ground floor, while he used the floor for housing. According to his cousin Manak Mihailovic, she got her name.
In the memory of the old Belgrade people, she was remembered as a tavern. On
the oldest photo stored in the Museum of the City of Belgrade, you can
see an inscription bearing the name of Ars Petrović, in front of which
tables are placed on the sidewalk of the street. Apart
from interested photographers, the appearance of Manak's house was also
marked by architect Staudinger and graphic artist Luka Mladenovic.
