The House of Legacies is an institution that takes care of the legacies and gifts that have been given to the city since 1955 until today.
This institution was founded by the Belgrade City Assembly in July 2004 with the aim of taking care of the protection, preservation and presentation of all movable and immovable laws that have been left to the City by its distinguished inhabitants and artists. The headquarters of the institution is in Knez Mihailova 46, in the legacy of Academician Nedeljko Gvozdenovic, and is temporarily located at Ilija Garašanina 24.
A building in Knez Mihailova street 46, together with buildings number 48 and 50, rarely preserved a unique blended building block characteristic of the architecture and urbanism of Belgrade in the seventies of the XIX century. Reconstruction, renovation and rehabilitation of this building is expected during 2008. Upon completion of the reconstruction of the building in Knez Mihailova street no. 46, the House of Legacies will have a large exhibition and gallery space (the total area of the building will be 1,300 m²) for the presentation of exhibits at a permanent exhibition of works of art from Belgrade's legacies. The author of the preliminary project of adaptation, reconstruction, conservation and rehabilitation of the building in Knez Mihailova street no. 46 is the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Belgrade. The project, which was done by architects Aleksandra Šević (exterior) and Bojana Đurović (interior), was awarded at the 37th May Exhibition of ULUPUDS in 2005.
Then, the House of Legacies will begin work on a permanent setting, in which objects from the existing and newly adopted legacies of the city of Belgrade will be presented.
