The Archives of Serbia and Montenegro are located in the building of the King Aleksandar I Karađorđević Foundation, which was erected as the King Alexander's House for secondary school youth. The building was built in 1933, according to the project of architect Vojin Petrović.
The Archives of Serbia and Montenegro under this name exist since 2003, after the creation of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro, as an institution that continued to perform the affairs of the Archives of Yugoslavia. The archives keep archival material from the period of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, from the period of socialist Yugoslavia and personal funds and collections.
