Ada Ciganlija is a river island in Sava, Belgrade, which has been artificially transformed into the peninsula. Also, this name for the neighboring Savsko Lake was formed by the rebuilding of the Sava and the beaches on the lake.
In the past few decades, Ada Ciganlija has been transformed from a place known for imprisonment and execution of death sentences to an extremely popular multifunctional recreation zone in Belgrade, known for its beaches and sports facilities, which have over 100,000 visitors during workdays and up to 300,000 weekend visitors during the summer.
Due to its popularity, Ada Ciganlija is often referred to as a jargon by the sea of Belgrade.
